Getting Started as a Tracer
Tracers are basically thieves who have some magical abilities. They fight very well and are decent at
casting, but they lack a large number of spell points. Those of you who wish to be a tracer will
need to develop your own strategy as time goes on, but this will get you started.
A tracer's skill is with his or her weapon. Any tracer who wishes to think he or she will out cast anyone will die
quickly in the pits. Tracer's spells are best used in the beginning as quick first strikes or finishing
blows. For example, if you're fighting a 25/0 fighter, you can cast your most powerful spell right
off the bat. If it hits, you're almost assured the win--if it fails you still have a good chance to win
based just on your hand-to-hand combat skill. You can also use smaller spells to quickly finish off
your foe if they have a strong armor/shield since spells go right through them. You should
budget your money to start between a decent melee weapon and a decent shield. You will need
both to perform well.
As you progress as a tracer, you'll notice that your HP and SP will not always go progress the same
amount. There is a 55 percent chance you'll get two hit points, and a 45 percent chance you'll get one hit point
and one spell point. This affects your strategy later in the game. If you start to get a large
amount of spell points, you'll have to focus more on magic strategy, and if you get a large amount of
hit points you'll need to focus on fighting ability. You will also want to make sure you upgrade
your weapons and armor before you start to worry about buying new spells. With that said, if you
can get a healing spell quickly you'll be almost unstoppable as a tracer.
